As the close of this age rapidly approaches we are able to clearly identify in scripture that cares of the world
will greatly increase (1). How often some believers seem to forget until an sudden crisis or circumstance,
like NYC 9/11 acts of unprovoked deadly violence, occur that they (we) are in a struggle with worldly
forces, principalities, powers, rulers of darkness and spiritual forces in high places (2). Time in the Word,
seeking the Lord in prayer, praise, worship, intercession, ministry ... will always come under attack by
worldly influences (and marauding spirits) during times of dire straits. Worldly preoccupations and
wasting-spirits can manifestly interfere with our effort to seek His face and remain in the center of His will.
Present-day forces (see Eph. 6:12) that oppose the purposes and plans of God are measurably intensifying in
their efforts to manipulate, distract, and attempt to destroy the faithfulness and obedience of believers,
especially in view of the realization that "the time is short" (3).
The subtlety of worldly cares, and the forces behind them, is as deceiving as any other ploy or snare of the
enemy ... and can surely be the 'Achilles' heel' of the unsuspecting believer. Diversions have always been
one of the most successful and widely used mechanisms for misdirecting the attention and focus of God's
people from their obedience to His commandments and the outworking of His Plans. Worldly forces have
had 6,000± years to perfect their methods, schemes and wiles(4). Contemporary man should not be so
cavalier nor arrogant to think that he can detect most or all of these type deceptions without a direct
anointing from the Holy Spirit and an impartation of His great all-knowing wisdom. Present-day appalling
behavior taking place between certain church figures and youth are at the least a reflection, if not a
consequence, of this type anointing being absent in upper-level church leadership. Church leadership that
attempts to cover-up such atrocities are as guilty as the perpetrators themselves.
Scripture reveals that significant deceptions, deceit, and duplicity will occur in the political, religious and
commercial realms as the last days unfold and further, there will be those who will be deceived (5) during
these end-times. Again, the subtlety of the last day deceptions will be such that even those considered to
have spiritual discernment may be 'misled and out thought'. Worldly cares and secular-type diversions can
be instrumental in the enemy's attempt to interfere with our patience, standing, endurance and waiting upon
the Lord and His purposes ... both corporately and in our individual lives.
Now is the time to be "praying always ... in the Spirit" (6), "living by the Spirit ... walking in the Spirit" (7),
and "worshipping God in the spirit" (8). If there ever was a time for the redeemed follower of Christ to not
operate in his own strength, power, discernment or wisdom, it is in these days and the ones immediately to
come. Worldly cares and their diversions seek the openings provided through our sin, scriptural illiteracy
(i.e., unknowing), and disobedience to our covenant relationship with Christ Jesus. "My sheep hear my
voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; ... neither shall any man
pluck them out of my hand" (9). Know that your security and hope reside in Christ Jesus and be not
swayed by the cares and diversions entrapping other men and their institutions.
