Kingdom Advancement
When we submit to and allow the will of God to be established in our life, the kingdom of God
advances; "
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done ...".(1) "Teach me to do your will, for you
are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground (uprightness).(2) The advancement
of God’s Kingdom is and shall be according to His will, yet man’s manifest behavior
(willfulness) has at times been a hindrance to the outworking of His plan for reconciliation,
restoration and salvation.(3) Today there is a distinct polarity in the body-of-Christ, as well as a
middle ground: one polarity is the church
waiting and watching to see what God is going to do
next, i.e., ‘God’s great end-time move’; the other polarity is the church
waiting but also
witnessing outside of its four walls and clearly focused on effecting the gospel of the Kingdom
of Jesus Christ beyond its own portals; and the middle ground church (type) which is Laodicean
(4) in nature, i.e., lukewarm and turned inward to its own agenda, prosperity and self-reliant
"From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully
advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it."(6 ) When this verse is read through the Greek
middle voice, it conveys the meaning of "the kingdom is pressing forward vigorously, and the
vigorous seize it eagerly."(7)  Scripture tells us that the Laodicean-type church will not succeed
(4), will be ejected and that the self-reliant indulgent church-type will also ‘suffer’ His
displeasure. We know from the book of Revelation, "they overcame him by the blood of the
Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink
from death."(8) "The method of "overcoming" is the atonement of Christ and the testimony
concerning His sacrifice. Only He is sufficient to expel Satan."(9)  Giving our personal
testimony of Christ’s presence and work in our life brings glory to the Father’s name and
honors His Son’s completed finished work at Calvary. The power of the ‘testimony’ sanctioned
in Revelation 12:11 combines what Christ has done for us personally and what His propitiation
holds for all who will believe: "believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that
ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God".(10)  For the end-
time church to advance in the kingdom of God with ‘vigor’ and to ‘seize it eagerly’, our
intrinsic testimony must be heard above the roar of the unbelieving multitude, above naysayer's
of God’s end-time manifestations and above legalists who posture to maintain the status-quo.
‘Light’ drives back darkness, darkness does not invade the ‘light’. When a light is turned on in a
dark room the darkness retreats, when the light is turned off darkness returns and occupies the
emptiness left by the absence of light. This principle parallels the light-and-dark dynamic in the
kingdom of God. "Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, I am the light of the world. Whoever
follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life"(11), "Ye (believers) are the
light of the world"(12) and "Ye (believers) are the salt of the earth:"(12)  Since we are given to be
‘the light of the world’ by Christ we need to remove any veils (pride, complacency, rituals, sins,
hypocrisy) that would obscure the light He has given us to shine into all the dark places. We are
the salt which preserves. Unless salt is shaken out of the shaker (e.g., the church) it has limited
active effect on the unbelieving world. Light also must be released from any confining influence
in order to flood the dark nooks and crannies of unredeemed hearts. Advancement of the
kingdom of God began with the coming of Jesus Christ and will reach fullness on His return and
during His rule throughout the millennial reign. Spiritual ‘darkness’ in a city will not leave of its
own accord. ‘Darkness’ in a political system will not vote itself out of office. Spiritual strongholds
once established in our life are not easily removed or torn down without the power of the Holy
Spirit shining Christ’s light into our hearts and circumstances. Simply put, when ‘spiritual
darkness’ is in a city, commercial environment, political arena, family domain, educational
system, etc., it is present because there is insufficient ‘Light’ to drive it back from whence it
came. Kingdom advancement is not a conflict-free dispensation, it is not a ‘wait-and-see’
proposition. Kingdom advancement is brought about by Spirit filled believers resolved to be
‘Overcomers’, determined to be the light-bringers of Christ’s gospel of peace and glad tidings
through the power of the Holy Spirit, and resolute to be fearless in the face of mounting ‘spiritual
darkness’ which surrounds and permeates the unsaved world. "To him that overcometh will I
grant to sit with me in my throne …"(13)
